Family-owned W.O. Grubb Crane Rental is a leading provider of bare and operated crane rental services in the Mid-Atlantic. Our experienced personnel stand ready with an extensive, diverse fleet to serve the needs of commercial, industrial, and civil customers.
We offer both essential and emergency services around the clock. Safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction are our highest priorities. Contractors, owners, managers and others call on us for one-time lifts, short-term rentals, and as a partner on long-term capital projects.
We have provided cranes for on-time and successful projects for over six decades. It is the expertise of our employees, coupled with an array of specialized equipment, that helps us provide the best in safety, service, and solutions.
W.O. Grubb was founded in 1962 by Willie O. Grubb, the son of a crane operator. In 1985, his son, Bill Grubb, purchased the company, continuing his father’s legacy of hard work and dedication. Under Bill’s leadership, W.O. Grubb experienced remarkable growth and success over the next four decades, earning a reputation for honesty, integrity, and exceptional service—values that were deeply rooted in Bill’s own principles. Bill became an industry icon, known for his unwavering commitment to quality and excellence.
“For over six decades, we’ve built a strong legacy of dedicated team members,” said Bill. “Today, we employ hundreds of professionals, including project managers, engineers, maintenance technicians, dispatchers, drivers, riggers, operators, and many other skilled personnel. Our team is known for its ingenuity, dependability, and commitment to safety.”
The Grubb family’s mission has always been to provide the services, equipment, and expertise needed by our customers in the safest, most efficient, and responsive manner possible. At W.O. Grubb, we continue to place a premium on personal service and, above all, safety.
In 2024, the W.O. Grubb Crane Rental family lost Bill Grubb after a long battle with illness. Bill was more than just an industry icon—he was a mentor, a friend, and a beloved leader. While he was a private man and rarely spoke of his own accomplishments, Bill took great pride in the company his father founded, as well as the enduring relationships we’ve built with our customers and partners over the years.
Since 1962, W.O. Grubb has come a long way, but our dedication to going above and beyond has never wavered. Bill’s legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward.

W.O. Grubb Crane Rental has a proven record for maintaining a safety and health program conforming to the strictest of industry standards, from nuclear power plants to military bases. In fact, we were the first to create a proprietary safety checklist that is still in use by many plant managers today. W.O. Grubb is the recipient of numerous site safety awards, and our company has been featured in national safety training videos.
Safety managers conduct site visits to ensure all employees adhere to safety guidelines. We conduct criminal background checks on all employees, and we enforce a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy which meets FMCSA/DOT/CDL requirements.
Our operators are certified through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO). They and other field personnel undergo regular safety training to meet site specific requirements and to stay abreast of industry regulations.
We rent cranes to the trades that construct commercial buildings, such as concrete, steel, HVAC, and roofing. Our cranes are used by contractors and subcontractors to construct entertainment and hospitality venues, hospitals and outpatient medical centers, office parks, manufacturing facilities, data centers, mixed-use centers, and more.
We proudly rent cranes as part of the continual improvement in our country’s infrastructure, including bridges, roads, dams, and tunnels. Our cranes are utilized for work on municipal plants, as well as in port terminals and shipyards.
We service recurring industrial facility outages, as well as the ongoing needs of chemical plants, pulp and paper plants, and refineries. We serve all energy markets, including nuclear, fossil fuel, renewables, wind, and solar.
We serve telecommunication providers with cranes for cell tower erection support and maintenance.
